Outstanding nursing care in a tranquil setting. The health and happiness of our residents is the main priority for St David’s staff. Set in a beautiful Victorian Priory that dates back to 1860, St David’s provides tender, dignified nursing care for up to 39 residents. The building and grounds are lovingly maintained by our dedicated team of staff, and many of the original features – such as stained glass windows, vaulted ceilings and ornate fireplaces – still remain.
The beauty and history of these add to the peaceful atmosphere at St David’s… and with a staff-to-resident ratio that is one of the highest in the country, it should come as no surprise that our residents and their families love being here. Picking the right people who share our values is absolutely essential. To help us get it right, we offer each resident the opportunity to be on our interview panel whenever we are recruiting a new employee. This way, we ensure we get the best staff with the right attitude.
As a holder of the Investors in People Award, we also offer outstanding care, support and development for our own staff. The fact that many of the St David’s team have been with us for over 10 years is testimony to our unerring support for them – and to the extent to which they enjoy their work.
This incredible loyalty and devotion means we can offer a level of continuity that is unrivalled in most other care homes in the UK.
Enjoying wonderful food is very important to our residents, and we are extremely proud of our skilled and dedicated team of chefs and nutrition experts. We only use food of the very highest quality – and, wherever possible, we ensure it is locally sourced, too. As you would expect, we are absolutely fastidious about hygiene: we are proud to have been awarded the highest accolade of 5 stars by the Scores on the Doors scheme for hygiene in food preparation.
At St David’s, we cater for the individual tastes and needs of our residents. We also encourage everyone to share their preferences and ideas with our kitchen team, so that our menus are tasty, interesting and varied, as well as healthy and nutritious. Most of our residents enjoy eating together in St David’s beautiful dining room, but meals can also be taken in the conservatory or in bedrooms, if wished. In addition to breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper, our residents can also request snacks and drinks whenever they wish. Finally, we never leave a special occasion un-marked: our chefs thoroughly enjoy preparing special treats, and the smiles and empty plates indicate that our residents appreciate them, too!

Our living room features a widescreen television on which residents can enjoy a range of digital and terrestrial channels, as well as a wide selection of films and radio shows. The discreet Loop system also enables residents to enjoy their favourite programmes at their preferred volume settings, and wireless internet access allows residents and families to surf and keep intouch.
Socialising at St David’s extends far beyond our communal living area, however. Many of our residents enjoy relaxing in our spacious conservatory and patio areas, and many participate in social activities in these areas, including tapestry, card games and gardening.
Rest and relaxation or activity and stimulation… at St David’s, how you spend your time is your choice entirely. At St David’s, we have a member of staff who is fully dedicated to running a comprehensive program of activities every single day.
What’s more, the agenda is built from the requests and suggestions of our residents, their families and friends. All are provided with an up-to-date agenda each week, and the same principle applies to all activities: everyone is welcome.
This ‘collaborative’ approach to activity planning enables us to be completely in touch with our resident’s personal preferences – whatever these may be.
For our wildlife lovers, we have regular flower-seed planting, flower pressing and nature walks, while our book lovers can attend book groups and reading circles. And there is always the option to indulge in a spot of health or wellbeing, such as an appointment with our regular hairdresser, or relax and let one of the team give you a manicure. Reflexologist, aromatherapy, and physiotherapy can also be arranged. Activities are not limited to St David’s, however: we also run frequent shopping excursions, theatre trips, and even get to the seaside!
You are never at risk of having nothing to do at St David’s – unless, of course, you choose to take a well-earned break!
